The Hostel overall was great, the staff were very warm and welcoming and made checking in a breeze. The location was superb and easy to get everywhere thats important. There were a few issue though which made my stay a little uncomfortable. There are a fair few people who are staying long term who are incredibly noisy and have made the hostel there home which allowed no space in the fridges to have storage for your own food. Other than that its a great location
We stayed for 2 nights over the Christmas period and it was perfect in everyway. the staff were amazing, with Di and Paki providing such a friendly and warm greeting. The room was clean, and set among bushland basically in the heart of Lorne. There were no hills to climb, and the supermarket and bottleshop was a 3 minute walk down the road, and another 3 minutes and i was on the beach. The bed and accommodation was first class - best value for money for many years. thanks to the team at the cottages - spot on.
Beautiful location and hospitality! We'll definitely be coming back. The highlight was seeing a koala in a tree opposite our cottage. We even saw it climb down and crawl to another tree!
The state of the kitchen was awful, there was a tampon on one of the showers, toilets were just ok, the shared room smelled funny (even though we were the only ones there, so it appeared the rugs were stinky), no place in the fridge to store our food. If you are ok with that, go for it. The only positive points: location and front-office receptionist was nice.
I give this place 3 stars because while the manager was extremely hospitable, the place was far from what I expected. My friends and I were hoping to cook most of our meals to help keep the costs low. While we are allocated a box to keep our food items in the fridge, it turns out that there is no space in the fridge left (and we have already bought our groceries ). On top of that, the kitchen was in an unpleasant state. Other backpackers failed to keep the place clean and left their dishes unwashed or it was washed but not put back in place. How can people be so disgusting? I understand from another backpacker who has stayed here often that this is the first time that it was in this state, but I think its best for the management to regulate who stays there as I noticed some of the backpackers staying there were working in the supermarket or other places in the area. Do note that the management was aware of this and were trying to do something about it but I do not know what is the outcome. Its such a shame because it was a nice location, environment and had good reviews but so happens we were sharing the place with other pigs at the time. I might give this place another try but maybe at the cottages with your own kitchen and not the hostel.
